Wadlinger leads Panthers with three first-place finishes

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Senior Emily Wadlinger (Lebanon, N.H.) posted three first-place finishes but the Colby-Sawyer College women's swimming & diving team took first and second in the meet's final race to sneak past Plymouth State University, 122-116, at the Knight Natatorium on Friday evening.

In the Panthers' first dual meet of the season the result was still up for grabs as the teams lined up for the 200 yard freestyle relay, the final event of the evening. CSC took the top two spots to earn the narrow win.

Wadlinger was the fastest swimmer in the 50-yard breaststroke (36.15) and 100-yard backstroke (1:07.84), while swimming the opening leg of PSU's 200-yard medley relay winning team. She also took second in the 50-yard freestyle.

Sophomore Casey Allaire (Mattapoisett, Mass.) won both of her diving events, scoring 257.55 in the 1-meter dive and 210.37 in the 3-meter dive.

Other winners were junior Julia Mazza (Belchertown, Mass.) in the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.87), senior Addie Schumaker (Haymarket, Va.) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:18.73) and freshmen Sylvie Donnell (Warren, N.H.) in the 1,000-yard freestyle (15:28.99) and Cammie Turell (Bowie, Md.) in the 50-yard butterfly (28.58).

Schumaker, Mazza and Turell joined Wadlinger on the winning 200-yard medley relay team.

The Panthers open the home portion of their schedule with a tri-meet against Eastern Connecticut and Western New England University on Saturday, Nov. 18, starting at 1:00 p.m.
