PSU Women’s Swimming & Diving falls prey to Westfield State

Allaire picks up two victories in setback

            WESTFIELD, Mass. – Despite a pair of wins on the diving board from sophomore Casey Allaire (Mattapoisett, Mass.), the Plymouth State University women's swimming and diving team fell to Westfield State University, 120-100, at the Ely Pool on Saturday afternoon.

            Allaire posted a score of 219.45 to win the 1-meter dive, then put in a season-best effort to win the 3-meter dive with a score of 216.15.

            Junior Stephanie LaBeck (Oakville, Conn.) picked up the victory in the 500-yard freestyle in 7:22.64, while sophomore Frances Grieco (Brookfield, Conn.) was the runner-up behind LaBeck. The duo also helped lead the 400-yard freestyle relay team to victory in a time of 5:03.19. Senior Addie Schumaker (Haymarket, Va.) swam the opening leg, with freshman Sylvie Donnell (Warren, N.H.) taking the anchor spot.

            Senior Emily Wadlinger (Lebanon, N.H.) set a season personal record while winning the 50-yard backstroke. Her time of 30.82 was nearly a full second faster than her previous best. Wadlinger also took second in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:00.46.

            The Panthers will take some time off for the end of the semester before getting back in the pool on Saturday, Jan. 6 for a home dual meet with Simmons College. The first event is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
