PSU Swimmer and Diver earn LEC recognition

Allaire named Diver of the Week, Turell Rookie Swimmer of the Week

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Casey Allaire (Mattapoisett, Mass.) and freshman Cammie Turell (Bowie, Md.) were both recognized by the Little East Conference (LEC) on Monday after impressive performances in the pool last week.

Allaire was named LEC Diver of the Week for the third time this season, with Turell earning LEC Rookie Swimmer of the Week honors for the first time.

Allaire has dominated the competition on the board all season. In last week's meet against the University of St. Joseph, the defending New England champion swept the diving events yet again. She set a new school record on the 3-meter board with a score of 258.65, shattering the previous mark by nearly 10 points, and her 1-meter score of 229.40 was 101 points better than her opponent. Allaire remains undefeated on the board this season.

Turell won all four of her events against USJ. She cruised to victories in the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.05) and 50-yard butterfly (28.85), finishing more than six seconds ahead of her closest competition in both events. She added a win the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.84, nearly 2.5 seconds ahead of the second place finisher, and she capped the meet by swimming the anchor leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay in 27.45, giving the Panthers the win by three seconds.

The Panthers travel to UMass Dartmouth on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. dual meet.
