Allaire, Turell earn weekly recognition
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The top swimmer and diver for the Plymouth State University women's swimming and diving team earned Little East Conference (LEC) weekly honors following their performance in the team's dual meet last week.
Sophomore Cammie Turell (Bowie, Md.) was named the LEC Swimmer of the Week, while junior Casey Allaire (Mattapoisett, Mass.) was selected as the LEC Diver of the Week. The duo combined to win four events as the Panthers fell to the University of St. Joseph, 164-126, on Friday.
Turell earned wins in the 50-yard freestyle (26.40) and 100-yard IM (1:08.36), while also placing second in the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.04). Both of her freestyle times were season-best efforts. In the IM, Turell jumped out to a lead was able to hold off the competition down the stretch. It is her first weekly honor of the season.
Allaire swept the diving events for the fourth time this season, winning the 1-meter title with a score of 165.95. On the 3-meter board she posted a 235.30 to eclipse her closest competition by more than 70 points. In her career to date, she has finished first in 37 of the 42 diving events she's entered. She is honored for the fourth time this season.
Plymouth State heads to Maine Maritime Academy on Wednesday (Jan. 16) for a double dual meet with the Mariners and WestConn starting at 5:00 p.m.
