PSU Women's Swimming & Diving athletes selected for LEC honors

Svetin, Allaire named Swimmer, Diver of the Week 

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – After helping the Plymouth State University women's swimming and diving team rally past the University of St. Joseph in a dual meet on Friday, sophomore Madelin Svetin (Topsham, Maine) and senior Casey Allaire (Mattapoisett, Mass.) have earned Little East Conference (LEC) weekly recognition.

            Svetin was tabbed the conference Swimmer of the Week, while Allaire garnered her third LEC Diver of the Week honor.

            Svetin won all three of her individual events and swam the opening leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay to help PSU rally past the University of St. Joseph's, 140-138, in a dual meet on Friday. She posted season-best times to top the field in the 50-yard backstroke (30.15) and 100-yard backstroke (1:03.55), and was first to touch the wall in the 100-yard butterfly (1:08.24). With PSU trailing by seven points entering the final event, the 200-freestyle relay, Svetin got out to a nearly three-second lead and the Panthers would not relinquish it to win the in 1:56.13 and the meet.

            Allaire swept her two events on the board for the 21st time in her career. She scored 227.40 on the 1-meter board to win by more than 40 points, then posted a 220.20 at 3-meters to win by an impressive 64-point margin.

            Svetin, Allaire and the rest of the Panthers will be back in the pool Saturday (Jan. 18) in a dual meet at Westfield State.
