PSU Women’s Swimming & Diving opens NEISDA Championships

Panthers 14th in 800-yard freestyle relay 

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women's swimming & diving team opened the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships with the 800-yard freestyle relay at the Tootell Aquatic Center at the University of Rhode Island on Friday night.

            In the only event of the day, freshman MacKenzie Brady (Rochester, N.H.), sophomores Ellie Wilson (Darnestown, Md.) and Madelin Svetin (Topsham, Maine) and junior Cammie Turell (Bowie, Md.) teamed up for a 14th-place finish. The Panthers picked up 26 points and sit in 14th place.

            Simmons leads the team standings with 64 points, with Keene State (56) and Roger Williams (54) rounding out the top three.

            Brady posted a 2:23.64 in the opening leg, while Wilson (2:12.36) and Svetin (2:12.69) were solid in the middle before Turell anchored the race with a 2:14.20 over the final 200 yards. PSU's total time of 9:02.89 was just behind LEC foes WestConn (8:54.93) and Eastern Connecticut (8:54.20).

            The meet continues tomorrow with preliminaries and finals of the 500-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, 50-yard breaststroke, 200-yard backstroke, 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM and 400-yard medley relay, and the preliminary round of 1-meter diving.
