Panthers conclude regular season at 8-3

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Plymouth State College women's tennis team wrapped up its best regular season in over a decade Monday with a tough 6-3 non-conference defeat at Saint Anselm College.

The Panthers conclude the dual match season with an 8-3 record under fourth-year head coach Judy Switzer. It is the team's best record since the 1990 squad finished 9-3. PSC earned more victories this season than the last two years combined.

Saint Anselm players needed over three hours to put the Panthers away on a blistering cold day. The Hawks improve to 5-4 on the season.

Plymouth State picked up victories from sophomore Katie Olsen (Reading, Mass.) at No. 2 singles and junior Sarah Kasuba (Stratford, Conn.) at No. 4 singles. They share the best singles record on the team this fall with 10-1 marks. Sophomore Holly Mills (Reading, Mass.) and freshman Kelley Sheehan (Newburyport, Mass.) teamed to win at No. 3 doubles, improving their record to 7-1.

Rachelle Biernacka and Allison Pinsince had undefeated days for Saint Anselm. Biernacka was victorious at No. 1 singles, and she teamed with Maurissa McGeary to win at No. 1 doubles. Pinsince won her No. 3 singles match and teamed with Courtney Foster to win at No. 2 doubles. Maureen Perry and Karen Kane also won singles matches for the Hawks.

PSC will compete in the Little East Conference Championships this Friday and Saturday (Oct. 12-13) at the University of Southern Maine. The Panthers tied Rhode Island College for first place in the LEC regular season race, both schools at 4-1. PSC placed third at last year's championships, behind champion Southern Maine and runner-up RIC.
