Panthers open with win at Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H. -- The Plymouth State women's tennis team began the 2002 season Thursday with an 8-1 road win over the Colby-Sawyer Chargers at the Patricia D. Kelsey Tennis Courts.

The Panthers' Jamie Hazard (SR, Foster, RI/Ponaganset HS) and Katie Olsen (JR, Reading, MA/Reading HS) claimed a doubles match together and singles contests on their own, while Jessie Leone (FR, Cataumet, MA/Bourne HS) was also a two-time winner at singles and at doubles with Rebecca Love (SO, Bedford, NH/Manchester West HS). Plymouth received additional singles victories from Whitney O'Leary (FR, Sagamore Beach, MA/Bourne HS), Lindsay Coletti (JR, Hudson, MA/Hudson HS), and Rachel Xavier (Meredith, NH/Pilgrim {RI}).

The Chargers' (0-2) lone point came from the tandem of Tarren Bailey (FR, Guilford, CT/Guilford HS/New Hampton School {NH}) and Karen Salvo (JR, Haverhill, MA/Central Catholic HS) at No. 2 doubles.

Both teams will play their conference openers on Saturday afternoon. Colby-Sawyer is headed to Nichols for a Noon Commonwealth Coast Conference match, while the Panthers will play their first home contest of the season versus Little East Conference foe Rhode Island College at 1:00 p.m.
