PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Plymouth State College women's tennis team won a tight battle against the defending conference champions Saturday, defeating Rhode Island College 5-4 in a Little East Conference match at the P.E. Center Courts.

Hazard pulled out an exciting 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 decision over Liz Barrette (North Providence, RI) in the primary singles match.

Senior Sarah Kasuba (Stratford, CT) and junior Cally Thorup (Cumberland, Maine) also registered wins for PSC at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Freshmen Whitney O'Leary (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) and Rachel Xavier (Meredith, N.H.) paired up to win at No. 3 doubles.

RIC's winners included senior Donna Vongratsavay (North Providence, R.I.) and juniors Samantha Hedden (Rumford, R.I.) and Kristin Mandsager (Portsmouth, R.I.) in singles, and sophomore Meghan Mooney (Scituate, R.I.) and Mandsager at No. 2 doubles.
