PSC downs UMD to stay undefeated
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Plymouth State College women's tennis team remained perfect on the season Saturday with an 8-1 Little East Conference victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
The Panthers won two of the three doubles matches, then swept the six singles encounters to take the victory. PSC is now 4-0 this season, 2-0 in LEC matches, while UMD drops to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
The duo of senior Jamie Hazard (Foster, RI) and junior Katie Olsen (Reading, MA) continued to excel for the Panthers. They teamed together to win their No. 1 doubles match, improving to 4-0 on the season, while Hazard was a winner at No. 1 singles to up her mark to 4-0 and Olsen captured a victory at No. 2 singles to move to 3-1.
Freshmen Whitney O'Leary (Sagamore Beach, MA) was also a double winner for PSC Saturday, taking a three-set match at No. 3 singles and joining classmate Jessie Leone (Cataumet, MA) in the win at No. 2 doubles.
PSC showed its strength at the bottom of the line-up, with junior Cally Thorup (Cumberland, Maine), senior Sarah Kasuba (Stratford, Conn.) and junior Lindsay Coletti (Hudson, MA) all picking up singles victories.
