PSC drops match to Saint Anselm
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Saint Anselm College captured five of the six singles matches Tuesday afternoon to register a 6-3 victory over Plymouth State College in a Granite State women's tennis match at the P.E. Center Courts.
The Panthers started by winning two of the three doubles encounters, but managed only one singles win and finishes the regular season with a 7-2 overall record. Saint Anselm stops a two-match losing skid and improves to 5-4.
Playing without some key players, the Panthers got doubles wins from seniors Jamie Hazard (Foster, R.I.) and freshman Whitney O'Leary (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) at No. 1 and senior Sarah Kasuba (Stratford, Conn.) and junior Cally Thorup (Cumberland, Maine) at No. 2. The only singles match they could muster, though, was a 6-4, 6-3 victory by Hazard at No. 1, as she improved her season singles record to 7-1.
Juniors Allison Pinsince (Somersworth, N.H.) and Courtney Foster (Southboro, Mass.), senior Karen Kane (Caribou, Maine), junior Betsy Murphy (Nashua, N.H.) and freshman Chelsea Allan (Milford, Mass.) helped the Hawks to the win with singles victories. Allan and junior Jeanette Nicolett (Bridgeport, Conn.) won the only doubles match for the visitors.
The Panthers will compete this weekend at the annual Little East Conference Championships, hosted by UMass Boston. PSC finished 5-0 in LEC dual matches this fall. Saint Anselm returns home to host Bryant College on Thursday (3:30 p.m.).
