GORHAM, Maine -- The Plymouth State University women's tennis team dropped to 0-3 on the season Saturday after dropping a 6-3 decision to the University of Southern Maine in a Little East Conference dual match.
PSU took two of the three doubles encounters, but the hosts were stronger in singles play, winning five of the six matches. USM avenged last year's 5-4 Panther victory, improving to 1-1 on the season.
Plymouth State's winners vs. USM included senior Katie Olsen (Reading, Mass.) and sophomore Megan Sowers (Londonderry, N.H.) at No. 2 doubles, and senior Cally Thorup (Cumberland, Maine) and sophomore Rachel Xavier (Meredith, N.H.) at No. 3 doubles. The lone singles winner for PSU was Xavier, who was victorious in straight sets at No. 5.
The Panthers return home to host Salem State on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the P.E. Center Courts.
