PSU Womens Tennis upends UMass Dartmouth
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. - Plymouth State University won its Little East Conference women's tennis opener Saturday afternoon, knocking off the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, 6-3, in a match played at New Bedford High School.
The victory marked the first collegiate win for PSU head coach Barbara Rawlsky-Willett. The Panthers improve to 1-1 overall, while UMD is now 0-2.
Junior Rachel Xavier (Meredith, N.H.) and sophomore Erica Huckins (Plymouth, N.H.) each collected two wins apiece for PSU. Xavier was a winner at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles with junior Sarah Cole (North Waterboro, Maine), and Huckins captured wins at No. 2 singles and No. 3 doubles with junior Liz Duell (Hope Valley, R.I.).
The Panthers also got victories from junior Whitney O'Leary (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) at No. 1 singles and sophomore Kiley Boyd (Brattleboro, Vt.) at No. 6 singles.
PSU plays another road match Wednesday at Bridgewater State (3:30 p.m.) before hosting Salem State next Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
