UMD powers past Plymouth State Womens Tennis
Donovan, Smith remain unbeaten in singles for Panthers
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s women’s tennis team won all three doubles matches and went on to defeat visiting Plymouth State University, 7-2, Saturday afternoon in a Little East Conference match at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex.
Senior Amy Lopes (New Bedford, Mass.) was a double winner for the Corsairs, winning at number one singles and teaming with junior Alexa Fiorita (Reading, Mass.) for a victory at number one doubles. Freshman Elizabeth Cignoli (Springfield, Mass.) collected a victory at number three singles and combined with freshman Nicole Pelletier (Swansea, Mass.) to win at number two doubles.
The Corsairs improved to 3-0 and 2-0 in the LEC with the victory, while the Panthers dropped to 3-1 and 2-1 with the defeat.
Plymouth State picked up its victories at No. 2 singles by junior Laura Donovan (Acton, Mass.) and at No. 4 singles by junior Lydia Smith (Marblehead, Mass.). Donovan and Smith are both 4-0 this season in singles play.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action Tuesday with an LEC match at UMass Boston. Plymouth State returns home to host Castleton State Wednesday in a non-conference match (3:30 p.m.)
