PSU Women’s Tennis defeats Colby-Sawyer

Bottom of line-up leads Panthers to win

            NEW LONDON, N.H. – Colby-Sawyer College had the top two players but Plymouth State University had the winning team Wednesday afternoon as the Panthers defeated the Chargers, 6-3, in a non-conference women's tennis match at Kelsey Courts.

            Sophomore Liz Lincoln and junior Claire Toffey won the No. 1 doubles match for the Chargers and recorded straight-set victories in the top two singles flights, but PSU won the rest to pull out the 6-3 win.  The Panthers improve to 3-2 on the season while Colby-Sawyer drops to 3-5.

            Senior Megan Cooper and junior Elizabeth Silsby led the Panthers with two victories apiece.  Cooper won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles and paired with sophomore Jane Duggan for an easy win at No. 3 doubles, while Silsby was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at No. 5 singles and teamed with senior Lydia Smith for a victory at No. 2 doubled.

            Also contributing to the team victory were sophomores Molly Heartfield and Cheyenne Lessard, who won singles matches at No. 3 and No. 6, respectively.

            PSU is right back on the court Thursday with a home match against Lyndon State College (3:30 p.m.)  Colby-Sawyer visits Castleton State College Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
