Top LEC weekly honor for PSU Women’s Tennis player
Burke named Little East Player of the Week
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The top player on the Plymouth State University women's tennis team was recognized by the Little East Conference Monday for her performance in three Panther matches last week.
Junior Sara Burke was named LEC Women's Tennis Player of the Week after leading the Panthers to a 2-1 record on the week. She is the first Panther to win LEC weekly honors this season, and it's the first LEC recognition for Burke since she was named Little East Rookie of the Year in 2009.
PSU's top player the past three years, Burke went 3-0 at No. 1 singles last week and 2-1 at No. 1 doubles. She won all three No. 1 singles matches in straight sets, including Tuesday's decision over Salem State's Michelle McEwen, who is one of the top players in the conference. Burke extended her singles winning streak to four with the victory and improved her season record to 6-3, including 5-1 against LEC opponents.
Burke also went 2-1 at No. 1 doubles with sophomore Molly Heartfield, with their only loss coming to McEwen and All-LEC doubles teammate Lauren Torenne.
PSU, 6-3 overall and 3-3 in LEC matches, plays a pair of road matches this week, visiting Endicott College on Wednesday for a non-conference match and traveling to Worcester State University Saturday for an LEC contest.
