Endicott too strong for PSU Women’s Tennis
Panthers blanked in non-conference match
BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team continued their record-setting 2011 season with another win on Wednesday, defeating non-conference opponent Plymouth State University, 9-0, to improve to 10-0 on the season.
Plymouth State dropped to 6-4 overall with the loss after winning back-to-back Little East Conference matches over the weekend.
The Gulls swept through doubles play behind an 8-3 win at #1 doubles by seniors Kate Cioffi and Emily Annis, an 8-4 victory by senior Laura MacLeod and freshman Natalie Egbert at #2 doubles and an 8-0 shutout at the #3 doubles spot by freshman Amy Heacox and sophomore Emilie Cloutier.
Endicott continued their strong play in the singles portion of the match with Cioffi, Cloutier, Heacox, Annis and Egbert all recording straight set victories over their Panther opponents. In the #6 singles spot, junior Rachel Fenstermaker edged her Plymouth State opponent in the first set 7-6 (7-0 tiebreaker), then followed with a 6-1 second set win to take the point.
Endicott returns to the double-digit plateau for the first time since the 2009 season when the Blue and Green went 14-4 overall. The Gulls avenged an 8-1 loss to Plymouth State last season.
Endicott will host Gordon in CCC action Thursday at 3:30 pm while Plymouth State travels to Worcester State on Saturday for a 1:00 pm LEC match. That match will be played at Assumption.
