Little East Player of the Week honor for PSU Women’s Tennis player

Jakubas earns weekly recognition for Panthers in Week One

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Little East Conference (LEC) weekly fall sports awards program began on Monday with a Plymouth State University sophomore earning the top LEC Women's Tennis honor.

Sophomore Sunny Jakubas (Califon, N.J./Voorhees) was tabbed as the first LEC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for 2015. An All-Conference selection a year ago, Jakubas was a three-time LEC Rookie of the Week last season.

A 5'6" sophomore, Jakubas helped the Panthers to a 1-1 start to the season, with a 9-0 LEC victory over the University of Southern Maine and a 7-2 loss to Saint Anselm College. The setback snapped PSU's regular season winning streak at 13 matches, dating back to 2013. Jakubas won both of her matches at No. 2 singles, and earned a victory at No. 2 doubles with junior Rachel Gustafson (Belchertown, Mass.) in the LEC match vs. Southern Maine.

PSU, 1-1, will play a non-conference match Wednesday at Colby-Sawyer College (3:30 p.m.) before hosting Bridgewater State University Saturday in an LEC contest (1:00 p.m.) at the Holderness School Courts.
