Jakubas sisters help Panthers upset defending champs
HOLDERNESS, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women's tennis team pulled out a 5-4 Little East Conference victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Saturday afternoon at the Holderness School Courts.
PSU trailed 2-1 after doubles, and were down 4-3 through seven matches, but captured victories at No. 6 and No. 4 singles to clinch the team victory. PSU is now 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the Little East, while UMD is 4-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
The Jakubas sisters combined for three of PSU's victories. Senior Zara Jakubas (Califon, N.J.) and junior Sunny Jakubas (Califon, N.J.) combined for a win at No. 1 doubles, and then won their respective No.1 and No. 2 singles matches in straight sets.

* PSU clinched the victory on the strength of singles wins by senior Rachel Gustafson (Belchertown, Mass.) at No. 6 and junior Megan Wallace (Moultonborough, N.H.) at No. 4. Both Panthers won their first set 7-5 before taking the second set 6-2 and 6-4, respectively.
* UMD led 2-1 after doubles, as junior Mollie McCaffrey (Taunton, Mass.) and Jaime Fastino (Rehoboth, Mass.) were winners at No. 2, and juniors Samantha Rollings (Tiverton, R.I.) and Kheyla Orival (Woburn, Mass.) took the match at No. 3.
* The Corsairs got singles wins from Fastino at No. 3 and junior Molina Oung (Bourne, Mass.) at No. 5.
* UMD was seeded fourth in last year's LEC Tournament but upset the #1 and #2 seeds to claim the title.
