PSU Women’s Tennis edges Castleton

Gustafson leads Panthers to non-conference win

            HOLDERNESS, N.H. – Senior Rachel Gustafson (Belchertown, Mass.) was a winner in both singles and doubles Tuesday afternoon to lead Plymouth State University to a 5-4 victory over Castleton University in a non-conference women's tennis match at the Holderness School Courts.

            Gustafson teamed with sophomore Irene Ireme (Concord, N.H.) for an 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles, and then took a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 4 singles. Each team won three singles matches, with PSU prevailing by taking two of the three doubles matches.

PSU HIGHLIGHTS

* PSU's other winners in singles were freshman Alex Dunn (Jaffrey, N.H.) at No. 5 and sophomore Lily O'Connor (Salem, N.H.) at No. 6.

* The Panthers also got a victory at No. 3 doubles from junior Megan Wallace (Moultonborough, N.H.) and sophomore Kelley Corson (Exeter, N.H.) 

CU HIGHLIGHTS

* The Spartans won the top three singles matches as junior Ciara Bannister (St. Albans, Vt.), freshman Megan Nadler (Rutland, Vt.) and sophomore Kirsten Kruk (Clifton Park, N.Y.) all posted wins in straight sets.

* Castleton's only doubles win was by Nadler and junior Kayla Zsido (Rutland, Vt.) at No. 2.
