PSU Women’s Tennis blanks Lyndon State in season opener

Panthers open season with a win for eighth straight year 

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women's tennis team opened the 2017 campaign with a 9-0 win over Lyndon State College in a non-conference match held at the Holderness School.

            The Panthers, who improve to 1-0, opened their eighth-straight season with a victory and recorded their second straight 9-0 season opening win over the Hornets.

            Head coach Barbara Rawlsky-Willett praised her players for the complete team effort. "We had nine different players contribute to the win today," she said. "We played with control throughout."

            Freshman Chloe Knapp (Jamestown, N.Y.) teamed up with junior Alex Dunn (Jaffrey, N.H.) in number one doubles, with juniors Lily O'Connor (Salem, N.H.) and Kelley Corson (Exeter, N.H.) joining forces at number two doubles. Lyndon State forfeited the number three doubles match.

            Freshmen occupied the top four singles spots for the Panthers. Sage Winter (New Castle, N.H.), Maggie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.), Kerstin Venincasa (Sutton, Mass.) and Jenna Sundquist (Monument Beach, Mass.) held the top four slots, with junior Megan Wheeler (Manchester, N.H.) winning at number five singles.

            Plymouth State is back in action on Tuesday (Sept. 5) when the team travels to Saint Anselm College (3:30 p.m.) for a non-conference match.
