Panthers to host Worcester State in quarterfinal round on Tuesday
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women's tennis team has been awarded the fourth seed for this week's Little East Conference Women's Tennis Championship.
The Panthers (10-4, 5-3 LEC) will host No. 5 Worcester State (8-5, 5-3 LEC) at the Holderness School Courts for Tuesday's quarterfinal round. Plymouth State defeated the Lancers in Worcester, Mass., 7-2, in their regular season meeting on Sept. 16, but Worcester State upset the Panthers 5-1 in the 4/5 matchup during last year's tournament.
Rhode Island College (14-0, 8-0 LEC) captured at least a share of the regular season title for the third straight year and will be the tournament's top seed. The Anchorwomen will face the winner of No. 4 Plymouth State vs. No. 5 Worcester State in the semifinals on Thursday.
UMass Dartmouth (10-4, 6-2 LEC) earned the second seed and will host the winner of No. 3 Bridgewater State (10-5, 6-2 LEC) and No. 6 UMass Boston (4-6, 3-5 LEC) in Thursday's other semifinal match.
Tuesday afternoon will mark Plymouth State's eighth appearance in the LEC Championship Tournament since the conference changed the tournament format to bracket play in 2008. The Panthers are 5-6 in tournament play since 2008, and will be seeking the program's fourth tournament title. PSU most recently won the LEC Championship in 2014.
