PSU Women’s Tennis player honored by LEC

Venincasa named Player of the Week

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Little East Conference (LEC) has announced its weekly award winners and a member of the Plymouth State University women's tennis team was among those honored.

Sophomore Kerstin Venincasa (Sutton, Mass.) was named the LEC Women's Tennis Player of the Week after helping PSU to a season-opening, 5-4 win over UMass Dartmouth on Saturday.

Venincasa earned two key points for the Panthers, winning at both No. 3 doubles and No. 5 singles.

Venincasa and classmate Jenna Sundquist (Monument Beach, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-3 win in pairs play as Plymouth State swept the doubles matches to build a 3-0 lead.

UMass Dartmouth rallied to win the first three singles matches, but after a win at No. 6 singles the Panthers needed just one point to wrap up the match. Venincasa, who dropped the first set at No. 5 singles by a narrow 7-5 margin, rebounded to topple her counterpart by identical 6-3, 6-3 scores to secure the win for PSU.

Plymouth State continues its season-opening, four-match homestand on Tuesday (Sept. 4) with a contest against NCAA Division II Franklin Pierce. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Holderness School Tennis Courts.
