PSU Women’s Tennis player earns LEC recognition

Winter selected as Player of the Week

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – For the second straight week a sophomore on the Plymouth State University women's tennis team has been honored by the Little East Conference (LEC).

Sage Winter (New Castle, N.H.) was selected as the LEC Women's Tennis Player of the Week after posting a 3-1 mark over a pair of matches last week.

Winter teamed up with classmate Maggie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) to earn an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles in Tuesday's 5-4 win over Division II Franklin Pierce University. Winter also put up a good fight with senior Alana Wyatt (Worcester, Mass.) in a lengthy match at No. 1 singles, falling in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 3-6).

The defending LEC Rookie of the Year responded with an excellent performance against LEC preseason favorite Rhode Island College on Saturday. Winter was responsible for both of PSU's points in the 7-2 setback, again pairing with McCarthy for an 8-5 at No. 1 doubles before a straight sets (6-4, 6-4) win over sophomore Grace Zangari (Saunderstown, R.I.) at No. 1 singles.

PSU has now earned both Player of the Week honors this fall, after sophomore Kerstin Venincasa (Sutton, Mass.) captured the award a week ago. Plymouth State continues wraps up its season-opening, four-match homestand this afternoon with a match against NCAA Division II St. Anselm College. Expected rain has moved the match to the Bank of New Hampshire Field House in ALLWell North, with first serve set for 4:00 p.m.
