PSU Women’s Tennis ready for LEC Tournament

Panthers host WestConn in First Round match today

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – It's Little East Conference (LEC) Tournament time for the Plymouth State University women's tennis team, as the Panthers host WestConn in first round action at the Holderness School Courts today at noon.

Plymouth State captured the third seed for this week's championship tournament after topping Worcester State, 6-3, on Saturday. PSU and Worcester State finished the regular season with identical 6-3 conference records, but the Panthers earned the tiebreaker by virtue of the head-to-head win.

WestConn enters the tournament as the six seed after posting a 4-5 record in LEC action. The two teams met just ten days ago in Danbury, Conn. with PSU earning a 7-2 win.

At 9-5 overall, Plymouth State has an opportunity to reach double-digit wins for a program-record third straight year. The Panthers' depth has been key to the team's success this fall, with Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles combining for a 35-7 (.833) record.

Plymouth State will be looking for its fourth LEC title (2004, 2006, 2014) and hopes to return to the title match for a second straight year. Last fall PSU fell at top-seeded Rhode Island College 5-1, but was leading in each of the three unfinished matches. WestConn was the LEC champion in 2009, its lone appearance in the championship match.

The winner of today's match will advance to face second-seeded UMass Boston on Thursday (Oct. 17).
