PLYMOUTH, N.H.  – The Plymouth State University women's track & field team placed fourth out of five schools Saturday in the first event of 2016, the Plymouth State Indoor Invitational at PSU's Davis Track.

The University of Southern Maine topped the field in the women's team scoring with 121 points. Franklin Pierce University was runner-up with 91, followed by the University of Massachusetts Boston (68), Plymouth State (32) and Colby-Sawyer College (26).

Plymouth State was led by two third-place finishes on the track – freshman Nora Robichaud (Hampstead, N.H.) in the 500 meter dash in 1:30.48, and classmate Lora Giguere (Tolland, Conn.) in the mile run in 5:56.65. PSU also had three sixth-place finishers – senior Cierra Dion (Manchester, N.H./Central) in the 60 meter dash (8.62 seconds), sophomore Rileigh Goulette (St. Albans, Vt.) in the 800 meters (2:39.49), and Robichaud in the 60 meter hurdles (1.00 seconds).

Dion led the PSU contingent in field events, taking third place in the high jump with a leap of 1.47 meters (4'9-3/4"), and freshman Diana Perez (Cranston, R.I.) placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 4.83 meters (15'10-1/4").

PSU will compete again next Saturday at the Bowdoin Invitational.

The Panthers are in their first season as a varsity women's program. Plymouth State had men's track and field in the late 1960s and 1970s before discontinuing the program prior to the 1980 season.
