Geyselaers, Wescott pick up Rookie of the Week honors
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – A pair of freshmen on the Plymouth State University women's indoor track & field team earned Little East Conference (LEC) weekly recognition following standout performances at the Middlebury Winter Classic on Saturday.
Freshman Emily Geyselaers (Cornwall Bridge, Conn.) was named the LEC Women's Indoor Track & Field Rookie Track Athlete of the Week, while classmate Hannah Wescott (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) collected LEC Women's Indoor Track & Field Rookie Field Athlete of the Week honors for the Panthers as each posted three top-three finishes among their individual events.
Geyselaers posted a season best on her way to the long jump title, reaching 5.05 meters, while adding a second place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.81 seconds. She added a third place finish in the 60-meter dash in 8.29 seconds to continue her strong rookie campaign.
Wescott also earned a first, second and third place finish while establishing a new standard in the 60-meter hurdles for the second time this year. She reset her own mark with a time of 9.93 seconds, shaving 0.13 seconds off her previous record time. She also cleared 2.75 meters to place second in the pole vault and added a third place finish in the high jump after reaching 1.54 meters.
Plymouth State is back in action at the Smith Invitational at Smith College on Saturday (Jan. 19).
