PSU Women’s Indoor Track & Field athlete named LEC major award winner

Miller honored as Track Rookie of the Year

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Little East Conference (LEC) has announced its major awards winners for the indoor track & field season and a key member of the Plymouth State University women's indoor track & field team was among those to receive honors.

Junior Caitlyn Miller (Lee, N.H.) was selected as women's Rookie Track Athlete of the Year following a vote of the league's head coaches. She becomes the first major award winner in the history of the Plymouth State women's track & field program.

Miller, a four-time Track Rookie of the Week honoree, was dynamic in her inaugural season on the oval. She is part of four school records, including three individual marks, and claimed a Little East crown in the 5000-meter run at last month's championships.

She established a school record in the mile run in mid-January, running a 5:36.54 at Smith College, then set new school standards in her final four meets of the year. Her time of 19:07.24 in the 5000-meter run on Feb. 1 crushed the previous mark by nearly 50 full seconds, but she went on to beat that time at the LEC Championship (18:43.86) three weeks later, and then again (18:35.40) at the New England Regional Championship last Friday.

On Feb. 8 she celebrated her Senior Day with a program-record performance in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:00.59, more than 13 seconds better than the previous mark, and she also appears in the record books as part of the program's fastest 4x800-meter relay team.

The team concluded its strong season at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship at Middlebury College last weekend. For the year PSU established new program records in 13 events while finishing third at the LEC Championship meet, the highest in school history.
