Baillargeon posts ninth place for Panthers in shot put
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Plymouth State University women's track & field team was represented in one individual event and one relay race Saturday on the final day of the New England Division III Championships, hosted by Springfield College.
Freshman Selena Baillargeon (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) was the lone Panther to represent the school in an individual event, and she did not disappoint. Baillergeon took ninth place in the shot put with a mark of 11.44 meters (37-feet, 6.5 inches). Baillergeon was also the top freshman finisher in the event.
Plymouth State was also represented in the 4x100 meter relay, as the contingent of freshmen Brianna Warnick (Derry, N.H.), Diana Perez (Cranston, R.I.), Amanda Bomely (Middletown, Conn.) and senior Cierra Dion (Manchester, N.H./Central) finished in 17th place with a time of 52.12 seconds.
Baillargeon will represent Plymouth State at the ECAC Championships at Westfield State University on Thursday, May 19.
The Panther women are in the final stages of their first year as a varsity program. Plymouth State had men's track and field in the late 1960s and 1970s before discontinuing the program prior to the 1980 season.
