PSU Women’s Track & Field tunes up for championships at MIT

Bergeron, Perez post top perfomances for Panthers

            CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Plymouth State University women's track & field team made some final tune-ups for the outdoor championship season Satuday afternoon with some strong peformances at the MIT Sean Collier Invitational at the Morrison Track. The meet was a non-scoring event with numerous teams from all three NCAA Divisions.

            Sophomore Ashley Bergeron (Berlin, N.H.) posted a top performance for the Panthers, placing fifth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 12:41.92. Her time is a career-best and ranks as the top time in the Little East Conference this spring.

PSU HIGHLIGHTS

* Sophomore Nora Robichaud (Hampstead, N.H.) and freshman Eve Bagley (Holliston, Mass.) finished seventh and eighth in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:12.89 and 1:13.28, respectively. Bagley's time was a personal best and ranks as the ninth-best in the Little East this spring.

* Junior Rileigh Goulette (Saint Albans, Vt.) and sophomore Haley Dennis (Coventry, R.I.) posted personal best times in the 1500 meters. Goulette dropped 12 seconds off her best, finishing in 5:03.94, which is ranked seventh in the Little East Conference this spring, and Dennis lowered her best time by four seconds, finishing in 5:18.79.

* Sophomore Jess Conant (Canton, Maine) posted a PR in the 400 meters with a 1:04.96, which ranks 16th in the Little East this spring.

* Perez led the Panther field event athletes, placing sixth in the long jump with a leap of 4.82 meters (15'9.75"). Sophomore Kayla Gould (Orford, N.H.) recorded a solid performance in the pole vault with a career-best mark of 2.42 meters (7'11.25"), which ranks as the 11th-best vault in the Little East this spring.

 

NEXT UP

* The Panthers will compete in the Little East Conference Championships and New England Alliance  Championships next Saturday (Apr. 29) at Westfield State University, beginning at 11:00 a.m. PSU placed seventh in the Little East and 11th in the Alliance scoring at last year's championships.
