Bolden qualifies for finals for Panthers in high hurdles
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Three Plymouth State University student-athletes made appearances Friday in the New England Division III Track & Field Championships, hosted by Williams College, with over a dozen more Panthers set to compete on Saturday.
Sophomore Isaiah Bolden (Dover, N.H.) had an excellent performance for Plymouth State, taking eighth place among 23 competitors in the 110 meter high hurdles preliminaries, advancing to Saturday's final. Bolden posted a career-best time of 15.75 seconds, a tenth of a second better than his seed time.
Freshman Zach Bassett (Pascoag, R.I.) also represented Plymouth State in the 110 meter high hurdles with an impressive 11th place finish, third among freshmen. With his season-best time of 15.95 seconds, he joins Bolden as the only hurdlers in school history to run sub-16 seconds in the 110 highs.
Plymouth State's other competitor on Friday was sophomore Diana Perez (Cranston, R.I.), who finished in 19th place out of 25 in the women's long jump. She it herer mark of 4.64 meters (15'2") on her second attempt but had fouls on her first and third leaps.
In addition to Bolden in the hurdles on Saturday, PSU will have entries in the men's pole vault, 400 meter dash, 1500 meters, 3000 meter steeplechase, and 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays, and the women's shot put, 400 meter hurdles, and 4x800 meter relay. The Panthers are led by third-year head coach John Oster.
