Conant, Robichaud impress for Panthers
MEDFORD, Mass. – Juniors Jess Conant (Canton, Maine) and Nora Robichaud (Hampstead, N.H.) both turned in strong performances as the Plymouth State University women's outdoor track and field team finished 17th at the Tufts University Snowflake Classic at Clarence Dussault Track on Saturday.
Conant broke her own school record in the 400 meter dash, finishing 17th among a field of 56 competitors. She posted a time of 1:03.73 in her first event of the season, topping her previous mark of 1:03.85 set last April.
Robichaud set a new PSU standard in the pole vault, clearing a height of 2.50 meters (8' 2.50") to finish tenth.
The Panthers earned six team points. Meet host Tufts University easily claimed the team win with 187 points. Trinity College (88.5) and Connecticut College (64) made up the remainder of the top three.
Junior Diana Perez (Cranston, R.I.) had a strong day taking fifth in the long jump while also performing well in the 100 meter dash. She covered a distance of 5.06 meters (16' 7.25") in the long jump and placed 36th in the field of 65 in the 100 meters with a time of 14.012 seconds.
Senior Rileigh Goulette (St. Albans, Vt.) posted a time of 2:32.00 in the 800 meter run to finish 25th, while junior Haley Dennis (Coventry, R.I.) ended up 40th in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 5:15.19.
Junior Jillian Edwards (Exeter, N.H.) took seventh in the shot put reaching 11.63 meters (38' 2") on her first throw. She also finished 16th in the discus throw (29.64 meters, 96' 8") and 18th in the hammer throw (33.41 meters, 109' 7").
Freshman Mallory Lloyd (Hartland, Vt.) turned in a pair of solid debut performances in the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash. She finished 41st among 65 competitors in the 100 meters with a time of 14.23 seconds, and placed 44th out of 94 with a time of 28.98 seconds in the 200 meters.
Plymouth State is back in action next Saturday (Apr. 7), at the Corsair Classic hosted by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
