More school records fall as Panthers gear up for LEC Championship

MEDFORD, Mass. – Juniors Nora Robichaud (Hampstead, N.H.) and Jillian Edwards (Exeter, N.H.) both continued their strong springs by setting individual school records to help the Plymouth State University women's outdoor track and field team finish second at the Sunshine Classic hosted by Tufts University at Dussault Track on Saturday.

Robichaud set a new school standard in the pole vault after successfully clearing 2.80 meters (9' 2.25"), while Edwards' record-breaking performance came in the discus throw where she reached 33.08 meters (108' 6"). Additionally, the Panthers' 4x400 meter relay team of junior Jess Conant (Canton, Maine), Robichaud, freshman Mallory Lloyd (Hartland, Vt.) and senior Rileigh Goulette (St. Albans, Vt.) ran the fastest time in school history, posting a 4:20.10 to finish third.

As a team Plymouth State earned 84 points. Host Tufts blew past the field accumulating 373 points to finish first. The Panthers topped in-state rival Colby-Sawyer College by one point. Also competing were Amherst College, Thomas College, Wheaton College and a group of Tufts alumni.

The school-record discus throw was just part of an all-around strong day for Edwards, as she also finished third in the shot put (11.26 meters, 36' 11.50") and sixth in the hammer throw (32.82 meters, 107' 8").

Robichaud also took second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.25, less than a half-second behind the first place finisher.

Junior Diana Perez (Cranston, R.I.) looked strong in her two events. She topped the field in the long jump, covering 5.08 meters (16' 8"), and finished third in the 200 meter dash in a time of 28.78 seconds. It was the first time she ran the 200 this spring.

Junior Brianna Warnick (Derry, N.H.) finished just behind Perez in the 200, posting a time of 29.51 seconds to place fifth.

In the 100 meter dash, senior Stacey Oliveira (Brockton, Mass.) qualified for the finals with an eighth place preliminary time of 14.96 seconds. In the finals she moved up to sixth place after cutting 1-100th of a second off her time for a new personal record. She also set a new individual standard in the 200 meter dash with her time of 31.68 seconds.

Sophomore Erika Lillis (Merrimack, N.H.) finished fourth in the javelin throw, covering 30.07 meters (98' 8"), while junior Kayla Gould (Orford, N.H.) was the fourth-place finisher in the pole vault clearing a personal best height of 2.65 meters (8' 8.25"). Gould also added a PR in the 200 meters with a time of 32.27 seconds.

Other top performances included a fifth-place finish for junior Lora Giguere (Tolland, Conn.) in the 5,000 meter run (19:57.83), an eighth place finish for sophomore Rebecca Khimatian (Cumberland, R.I.) in the 200 meter dash (29.88 seconds) and a ninth place finish for Conant in the 800 meter run in 2:31.90.
