Perez, Edwards both set school records in Day Two
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Juniors Diana Perez (Cranston, R.I.) and Jillian Edwards (Exeter, N.H.) both set school records in their events during day two of competition at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet hosted by MIT at Morrison Track on Friday.
Perez set a new standard in the long jump, narrowly surpassing her own previous mark. She reached 5.27 meters (17' 3.5") to earn an eighth place finish and grab All-New England honors. Her jump was 0.01 meters longer than the record mark she set three weeks ago at the Penmen Relays at Southern New Hampshire University.
Edwards' record-setting performance came in the discus throw. Her toss of 35.54 meters (116' 7.5") was well beyond the old record of 34.47 meters that Edwards reached just last weekend at the Little East Conference and New England Alliance Championships at Bridgewater State.
Edwards will be the lone individual Panther competing in day three when she performs in the shot put, joining the PSU 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams.
The duo combined to earn Plymouth State one team point to land in 14th place after the second day of action. Host MIT held to top spot with 39 team points. The meet will conclude Saturday.
