Bowles, Wescott named Rookie Track/Field Athletes of the Week
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Days after establishing new program records, a pair of Plymouth State University women's outdoor track & field athletes earned Little East Conference (LEC) recognition when the league revealed its weekly award winners on Monday afternoon.
Freshmen Kim Bowles (Wonalancet, N.H.) and Hannah Wescott (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) were named the LEC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Track Rookie of the Week and Field Rookie of the Week following their record-setting performances over the weekend.
Bowles demolished the school record in the 5,000-meter run at the Penmen Relays at Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday. Her time of 19:09.21 was more than 20 seconds faster than the previous mark, and good enough for a sixth place finish.
Wescott was equally impressive while competing in her first heptathlon at the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College on Friday and Saturday. She finished fourth in the event with a program record 3,833 points, while also posting school record performances in the 100m hurdles (15.78 seconds) and high jump (1.55 meters). She added a personal best in the shot put (9.23 meters) and a season best time in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 27.50 seconds.
The duo will join the rest of the squad for the Sunshine Classic at Tufts University on Saturday (Apr. 20).
