PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Plymouth State College women's volleyball team, seeded second in the annual Little East Conference Tournament, was upset in the semifinals in four games by third-seeded Western Connecticut, Saturday at Foley Gymnasium.
The Colonials won the first two games, 15-13 and 15-3. PSC battled back to take game three, 15-9, but WCSU eliminated the Panthers in game four, 15-13. Western Conn. then lost in the championship match to Eastern Connecticut, 15-9, 15-6, 15-6, as the Warriors won their third straight title.
"We played hard, and I was proud of how we came back after losing the first two games," said PSC coach John Garneau. "Some of our outside hitters didn't play very well, and when you're playing a team as good as Western Connecticut, you have to have everyone playing well. But I was pleased with our effort, so I don't mind losing as much."
The Panthers' representative on the All-Tournament Team was senior middle hitter Megan Swenson (New Ipswich, NH), who posted 10 kills and three blocks against WCSU. Senior Chantelle Renna (Belmont, NH) also chipped in with 10 kills and a team-high 11 digs, and freshman Anna Lingelbach (Center Harbor, NH) registered eight kills and four blocks.
PSC, 21-10 overall, concludes the season on Tuesday, Nov. 4th, at Franklin Pierce (7:00 p.m.).
