PSC Volleyball bumped from LEC Tourney
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - After defeating host UMass Dartmouth in a quarterfinal match Friday night, the Plymouth State College women's volleyball team was knocked out of the Little East Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon in the semi-finals by Western Connecticut.
The Panthers, seeded third in the tournament, knocked off the sixth-seeded Corsairs Friday night, 11-15, 15-12, 15-6, 15-10.
PSC's hopes for a Little East title were dashed in the semi-finals Saturday by second seeded Western Connecticut, 15-4, 15-9, 15-8. It is the second straight season PSC has been eliminated in the LEC semi-finals.
PSC's leading player in the tournament was junior Jill Langis (Farmington, NH). She posted 21 kills, including a team-high 14 against UMD, along with two service aces and 21 digs, and was selected to the LEC All-Tournament Team.
Juniors Anna Lingelbach (Center Harbor, NH) and Veronica Mulholland (Billerica, MA) also turned in strong tournament performances for PSC. Mulholland posted 19 kills and 29 digs, including a team-high 20 digs Friday night, and Lingelbach recorded 11 kills and 10 blocks, including a season-high eight blocks vs. the Corsairs. Junior Andrea Baretta (Kensington, CT) contributed 35 assists vs. UMD and added 18 more against WCSU.
The Panthers, 22-9 overall, still have two matches remaining this season - next Saturday (Oct. 31) at Middlebury and the home finale Thursday (Nov. 5).
