PSC Freshman Named LEC Volleyball Player of the Week
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - A freshman on the Plymouth State College women's volleyball team has been selected the Little East Conference Player of the Week after her performance in six PSC matches last week.
Freshman outside hitter Carin LaValley (Northfield, NH) earned the top weekly honor from the LEC after receiving the Most Valuable Player award at the Roger Williams Invitational last Saturday. LaValley helped PSC capture the tournament for the fourth straight season and remain unbeaten (18-0) in tourney history.
LaValley averaged double figures in kills and digs in this year's tournament, registering 45 kills and 42 digs in four contests. She also led PSC earlier in the week with 12 kills in a match at Endicott, and 21 digs in the home-opening victory over Colby-Sawyer.
The Panthers went 4-0 in the tourney, and have now won five straight matches to improve to 6-3 overall under second-year head coach Moira Long. PSC will be back in tournament action this weekend, Friday and Saturday (Sept. 24-25) at the Bowdoin Invitational (6 p.m., 9 a.m.).
Panther Notes: Seniors Veronica Mulholland (Billerica, MA) and Jill Langis (Farmington, NH) were selected to the All-Tournament Team. The two Panther seniors were also on the All-Tournament team last season, with Langis winning MVP honors....Mulholland leads the LEC in digs per game (5.12). She has 174 digs in 34 games....LaValley is among the LEC leaders in three categories. She is fifth in kills/game (2.60) and service aces/game (0.77) and seventh in digs/game (3.00). Langis is 10th in service aces (0.51) and sixth in digs (3.43), and senior setter Andrea Baretta (Kensington, CT) is fifth in assists/game (5.44).
