PSC Freshman Named LEC Rookie of the Week
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - A freshman on the Plymouth State College women's volleyball team has been selected Little East Conference Rookie of the Week for the first week of the 2000 season.
Freshman Becky Landry (Nashua, NH) earned the top weekly honor for LEC rookies after helping the Panthers to victories in two of the three contests at last weekend's Little East Round Robin. PSC dropped the opening match to defending LEC champion and pre-season favorite Western Connecticut (3-0) on Friday, but rebounded to register victories Saturday over Keene State (3-1) and Southern Maine (3-0).
A 5'8" middle hitter, Landry led PSC in the three matches in kills (30), service aces (10) and blocks (11), while registering a team-high .250 attack percentage. She also added 21 digs to the cause. Landry's 13 kills against Keene State matched the team's single-match high for the weekend.
With the first set of conference statistics out, Landry is the LEC leader in blocks (1.10/gm) and ranks second in the LEC in kills (3.00/gm) and aces (1.00/gm).
After playing the home opener at Foley Gymnasium against Green Mountain College Tuesday evening, PSC plays a single match Thursday at Colby-Sawyer before defending its title Saturday at the Roger Williams Invitational in Bristol, R.I.
