PSC's winning streak stopped at Elmira
ELMIRA, N.Y. - Plymouth State College's volleyball team had its nine-match winning streak stopped Saturday with a pair of losses in the Elmira College Invitational.
The Panthers won their first match of the tournament Friday night over Utica College, 3-0, for its ninth straight victory. St. John Fisher snapped the streak Saturday with a 3-0 triumph, and the Panthers were then defeated by host Elmira, 3-0, and eliminated from the tournament.
Sophomore Carin LaValley (Northfield, NH) led the Panthers to the 15-5, 15-4, 15-4 victory over Utica, recording 14 kills and seven digs. She added a team high eight kills in the 15-11, 15-12, 15-10 setback to St. John Fisher. Freshman Bryce Budzinsky (Killingworth, CT) contributed seven kills against St. John Fisher.
After the defeat to St. John Fisher, the Panthers suffered their worst loss of the season to Elmira, 15-1, 15-2, 15-0.
The Panthers, 9-3 overall, return home to host UMass Boston this Wednesday (Sept. 27) in a Little East Conference match at Foley Gymnasium (6 p.m.)
