PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Plymouth State College women's volleyball program has received Little East Conference post-season honors for 2000, placing two individuals on the All-Star First Team and one player on the Second Team.
Sophomore Carin LaValley (Northfield, N.H.) and senior Stephanie Spiridakis (Belmont, N.H.) received LEC First Team All-Star honors. In addition, freshman Becky Landry (Nashua, N.H.) was awarded Second Team accolades and was named LEC Rookie of the Year.
Spiridakis has also been selected to participate in the New England Women's Volleyball Association Senior All-Star Classic, which will take place on Sun., Nov. 19, at WPI (11:00 a.m.).
A 5'5" outside hitter, LaValley earned her second straight selection to the All-LEC First Team. She led the LEC in kills (3.34 per game), and ranked sixth in hitting percentage (.276) and eighth in digs. LaValley was named LEC Player of the week twice this season, once on Sept. 18th and again on Oct. 23rd. LaValley was also named to the All-Tournament Team at four different tournaments this fall.
A 5'1" defensive specialist and tri-captain, Spiridakis has been a true leader for the Panthers this year. She led the team and ranked seventh in the conference in digs (3.06 per game), while also contributing 36 service aces, tied for third-best on the team. A four-year letterwinner and former setter, Spiridakis completes her career with the PSC career record for service aces (198) and ranks second in assists (1,191).
A 5'8" middle hitter, Landry had an outstanding freshman season for PSC, earning LEC Rookie of the Week honors four times. She led the team and ranked fifth in the conference in hitting percentage (.298) and ranked third in the LEC in kills (2.87 per game). Landry was also the team leader and ranked among the top LEC performers in service aces (0.50 per game) and blocks (0.74 per game).
These three helped the Panthers compile an overall record of 22-12, and share second place in the LEC with a 5-2 mark. The Panthers received a New England regional ranking earlier this season, and saw its season at the hands of Eastern Connecticut in the semifinals of the LEC post-season tournament.
