PCS split four matches at E.Conn. Inv.
WILLIMANTIC, Conn. - Plymouth State College split four matches at the Eastern Connecticut State University Women's Volleyball Invitational Friday and Saturday.
The Panthers were defeated by eventual tourney champion Massachusetts Institute of Technology in their first pool play match, 3-0, Friday evening, and then advanced out of pool play with a 3-0 victory over Lasell College Saturday morning. PSC pulled out a 3-2 verdict over Wheaton College in the elimination play quarterfinals, winning the decisive fifth game, 16-14, but went down to defeat in the semifinals, 3-1, to host Eastern Connecticut.
The results leave PSC with a 12-9 overall record. Tournament champion MIT is now 23-2.
Junior Carin LaValley (Northfield, N.H.) continued to excel for the Panthers, earning selection to the All-Tournament Team. It is the fourth time this season that LaValley has earned All-Tournament Team honors, and the 10th time in her career.
The Panthers are idle until Sunday, Oct. 14th, when they host Regis College at 12 noon in the Homecoming contest.
