Panthers fall to Western Conn.

PLYMOUTH, N.H-- Western Connecticut State University volleyball wrapped up the Little East Conference regular season title Friday, defeating Plymouth State College in three games 30-27, 30-25, 30-28, and Keene State College in three games, 30-23, 30-13, 30-18 at Foley Gymnasium.

The Colonials (20-11, 7-0), who were challenged by both teams throughout the matches, will be the top seed in the 2001 LEC Tournament next week.

PSC (16-12, 4-3) clinches a tie for third place with UMass-Dartmouth but will enter the LEC Tournament as the fourth seed. The Panthers will host fifth seeded UMass-Boston next Wednesday at Foley Gymnasium. Keene State completes its season at 11-16.

Leading the way for Plymouth State was Becky Landry (Nashua, N.H.) who registered 21 kills and three service aces. Jesse O'Hearn (Tilton, N.H.) added 29 assists in the losing effort.

The Panthers end the regular season on Sunday when they host Colby-Sawyer College in a non-conference match starting at 1:00 p.m.
