PSC advances to LEC Semifinals

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - It's "Conference Tournament Week" for schools in the Little East Conference, and Plymouth State College will be right in the thick of all four fall post-season tourneys.

PSC earned the right to participate in this week's LEC tournaments after finishing in the top four among the eight schools in all four sports - men's and women's soccer, field hockey and volleyball. Three of the four Panther teams (men's soccer, volleyball and field hockey) finished in the top two in the conference during the regular season, and three sports (men's and women's soccer and field hockey) will enjoy home-field advantage for at least one game of the tournament.

The Panther WOMEN'S SOCCER squad went 2-0-1 in its final three LEC games to finish 3-3-1 in conference play and capture the fourth seed in the LEC Tournament. PSC, 5-10-1 overall, will host fifth-seeded Rhode Island College (6-9-2, 3-2-3 LEC) on Tuesday (Nov. 5) in a first-round game (5:00 p.m.). The winner advances to a semi-final road game Thursday (Nov. 7) at regular season champion Keene State, with the championship game slated for Saturday (Nov. 9) at the site of the highest remaining seed.

The PSC MEN'S SOCCER team finished runner-up in the LEC during the regular season, and earned the second seed among the four teams that qualified for the tournament. The Panthers (8-6-2, 5-2-0 LEC) will host third-seeded Keene State (11-4-3, 4-1-2 LEC) in one semifinal on Wednesday (Nov. 6) at Panther Field (5:00 p.m.). Regular season champion Western Connecticut hosts UMass Dartmouth in the other semifinal, with the two winners meeting Saturday (Nov. 9) for the championship at the site of the highest remaining seed.

The Panther VOLLEYBALL team is enjoying its most successful season in its seven-year history, winning a record 25 matches (25-9 overall) and finishing second in the LEC at 6-1, its highest place to date. PSC earned a first-round bye and automatically advances to a 2:00 p.m. semi-final match on Saturday in Danbury, Conn., against the winner of Wednesday's first-round match between Eastern Connecticut and UMass Dartmouth. Top-seed Western Connecticut will play in the 4:30 p.m. semifinal Saturday, with the championship match slated for Sunday (Nov. 10) at 12 noon.

The PSC FIELD HOCKEY team captured its third straight LEC regular season conference title with a perfect 10-0 conference mark. Ranked #2 in the latest NCAA New England West regional poll, PSC finished 15-1 overall and brings a 12-game winning streak into the tournament. After earning a bye in Tuesday's first-round, PSC will host the semifinals at Arold Field Friday (Nov. 8) at 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. and the championship game Saturday (Nov. 9) at 12 noon (PSC will play in the early game on Friday).

The LEC tournament champion in all four sports receives an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament.
