PSU Volleyball falls in semifinals at Super 8 Inv.

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Plymouth State University women's volleyball team finished the Super 8 Invitational Tournament with a 3-1 record after splitting a pair of matches Saturday at Foley Gymnasium.

The Panthers were defeated by Coast Guard Saturday in the semifinal round, 3-0 (30-23, 30-27, 3-17) but regrouped and came back with a 3-0 victory over Johnson & Wales in the consolation round (30-16, 30-26, 30-20). Williams College captured the tournament with a 3-0 triumph over Coast Guard in the championship match (30-25, 30-24, 30-26).

Sophomore Kelly Landry (Nashua, N.H.) was Plymouth State's representative on the All-Tournament Team. She finished the tournament with 39 kills and 28 digs, leading PSU Saturday with 10 kills and 12 digs in the setback to Coast Guard and adding 12 kills against Johnson & Wales.

Williams junior Robin Young (Andover, Mass.) was selected the tournament's Most Valuable Player. She was joined on the All-Tournament Team by junior Meg Demment (Woodland, Cal.) of Williams, junior Tracy Speelhoffer (Landisville, Pa.) of Coast Guard, senior Kristin Prokopas (Montague, Mass.) of Bridgewater State, Annmarie Proto (Bellmore, N.Y.) of Johnson & Wales, and Casey Kasenetz (Torrington, Conn.) of Western New England.

Others who contributed to Plymouth State's effort Saturday included senior Becky Landry (Nashua, N.H.), who had 15 kills and six blocks in the two matches, and sophomore Becky Ciulla (Chelmsford, Mass.), who registered 19 digs and 11 kills. Seniors Sonia Trudell (Somersworth, N.H.) and Carin LaValley (Northfield, N.H.) chipped in with 13 and 12 kills, respectively.

PSU, 3-1, is in tournament action again next weekend at the Western New England Invitational in Springfield, Mass.
