PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Three Plymouth State University student-athletes were recognized by the Little East Conference Monday for their performances in multiple Panther contests last week.
Panther senior Carin LaValley (Northfield, N.H.) was selected LEC Women's Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, and freshmen Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) and Krista Pettrey (Northfield, Vt.) were named LEC Women's Soccer Co-Rookies of the Week.
A 5'6" outside hitter, LaValley was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Western New England College Invitational last weekend after helping the Panthers to a 3-1 tourney record. She registered a .362 hitting percentage with 35 kills (3.50 per game), 36 digs (3.60 per game), four service aces and four blocks. Included in her totals was a 15-kill, 18-dig performance in a four-game loss to Amherst.
LaValley helped PSU (6-2 overall) to wins over Pine Manor, Mass. College and host WNEC. Her All-Tournament Team honor was the 11th such selection of her career, and the first since 2001. LaValley is the second straight Panther to be receive the LEC's top weekly offensive honor, following last week's pick of sophomore Kelly Landry (Nashua, N.H.).
MacDonald, a 5'2" midfielder, and Pettrey, a 5'1" forward, had similar successful weeks for the Panther women's soccer squad. Pettrey scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 win over Norwich and added an insurance score in a 3-0 triumph over Saint Joseph's, and MacDonald converted the game-winning goal against St. Joseph's after knocking in an insurance tally against Norwich.
Pettrey and MacDonald have helped PSU to a 3-0-0 record, the team's best start since 1997. Pettrey leads the team in scoring with three goals and one assist, while MacDonald is tied for second with two goals.
