- The Plymouth State University women's volleyball team opened the Little East Conference portion of its schedule Friday night with a 3-0 victory (30-18, 30-23, 30-22) over Keene State College in an LEC Round Robin at Keene State's Spaulding Gymnasium.
It was a good tune-up for Plymouth State as the Panthers gear up for Saturday's 10:00 a.m. match against defending conference champion Western Connecticut. PSU and WCSU shared the top spot in the LEC pre-season coaches' poll, with each school receiving four first place votes. The Panthers will wrap up the competition Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. meeting against the University of Southern Maine.
A trio of seniors led the Panthers to the triumph over Keene State, with Becky Landry (Nashua, N.H.) contributing nine kills, Carin LaValley (Northfield, N.H.) adding nine kills and 11 digs and Sonia Trudell (Somersworth, N.H.) chipping in with six kills. Sophomore setter Amanda Bagwell (Riverside, R.I.) dished out 26 assists to help the Panthers improve to 8-2 on the season.
Keene State (3-3) was led by Genna Florkowski (East Northport, N.Y.), who had five kills and 13 digs. Nicole Geyselaers (Cornwall Bridge, Conn.) had seven kills and four blocks and Lauren Graham (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) finished with 17 assists and nine digs.
After Saturday's matches, Plymouth State returns home to host Endicott on Tuesday at Foley Gymnasium (6:00 p.m.).
