BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Plymouth State University had little trouble in winning a pair of women's volleyball matches Friday night at the Bridgewater State Tournament, downing Clark University and Roger Williams University in three games each.
The Panthers opened the tournament with a 30-18, 30-9, 30-20 decision over winless Clark, and followed up with a 30-13, 30-25, 30-17 verdict over Roger Williams. The Panthers have won seven of their last eight matches to improve to 12-3 overall, while Clark dropped to 0-9 and RWU fell to 9-5.
Senior Becky Landry (Nashua, N.H.) led the Panthers in the victory over Clark, registering 14 kills and a sparkling .550 hitting percentage. Sophomore Kelly Landry (Nashua, N.H.) added eight kills and senior Carin LaValley (Northfield, N.H.) chipped in with six kills. Senior Sonia Trudell (Somersworth, N.H.) and sophomore Becky Ciulla (Chelmsford, Mass.) combined for 10 service aces.
It was the Landry, Landry and LaValley show again in the Roger Williams match. LaValley had a team-high 12 kills, while Kelly Landry posted a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Becky Landry also contributed nine kills, and Trudell led the way with 11 digs.
Plymouth State continues action in the tournament Saturday, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
