More post-season honors for PSU Volleyball
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - More post-season honors have come in for two members of the Plymouth State University volleyball team, which is enjoying a record-breaking season.
Senior Becky Landry (Nashua, N.H.) became the first player in the program's eight-year history to earn All-New England honors when she was voted to the Second Team by the New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA). In addition, Landry and classmate Carin LaValley (Northfield, N.H.) were chosen to represent Plymouth State at the NEWVA Senior All-Star Classic, which will be held at Clark University this Sunday (Nov. 16).
Earlier this week, Landry was named Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Star and LaValley was selected All-LEC Second Team. Both Panther standouts are four-year selections to the LEC All-Star team.
A 5'9" middle hitter, Landry is the owner of more than a dozen school records. She leads the conference in kills per game (4.10) and hitting percentage (.358) and ranks second in blocks per game (0.80). She was named to the All-Tournament team earlier this year at the Bridgewater State Invitational, and was the LEC Offensive Player of the Week four times this season.
LaValley received post-season recognition for the first time since 2001. She was a First Team All-LEC pick in 1999, 2000 and 2001 before missing a year and a half with injuries. LaValley returned this season and ranks among the conference leaders in kills (2.82 per game) and digs (3.06). She was the LEC Offensive Player of the Week in September after earning All-Tournament Team honors at the Western New England Invitational, the 11th such accolade in her career.
PSU will continue its record-setting season this weekend after earning a second straight ECAC Tournament berth. The 28-7 Panthers will meet Emmanuel College in Friday night's first-round game (7:30 p.m.), set to be played at top-seeded MIT.
