PSU Volleyball wins first two matches at Best Inn Invitational

  PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Plymouth State University women's volleyball team won its first two matches Friday in pool play at the Best Inn Invitational Tournament at Foley Gymnasium.

            The Panthers defeated Lasell University in Friday's first match, 3-0 (30-20, 30-17, 30-25), and then went on to post a 3-0 victory (30-16, 30-12, 30-12) over the University of Maine Farmington in the second match.

            The final round of pool play begins Saturday at 9:00 a.m.  PSU has clinched the top spot in Pool A, and will play a semifinal match at 11:00 a.m.  The tournament championship match is slated for Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

            In other pool-play matches Friday, Johnson & Wales University defeated both Mount Ida College, 3-0 (30-12, 30-14, 30-27), and Western New England College, 3-1 (31-29, 25-30, 30-17, 30-25).

            Junior Kelly Landry (Nashua, N.H.) was the top performer for Plymouth State, recording 12 kills in the win over Lasell and 13 kills in the victory over UMF.  Junior Becky Ciulla (Chelmsford, Mass.) added 14 kills on the evening, including nine against Lasell.

            Junior Stacy Therrien (Rochester, N.H.) had a strong evening serving for PSU, recording six aces against Lasell and 11 against UMF.  Junior setter Amanda Bagwell (Riverside, R.I.) registered 59 set assists, including 37 in the Lasell match.
